For Japanese riders who want to enjoy motocross and off-road riding casually on the weekends, the new Cipher J is the perfect choice.
The result is a slightly ambitious motocross boot that is lightweight, easy to use, and yet offers sufficient protection.
Gaerne products are designed for riding, so the sizing is different from regular shoes. Each model also has a different last, sole shape, and sole manufacturing method, so the sizing varies. We have prepared a size chart based on the sole and last data for each model, so please use it to help you choose your size.

The original calf line is newly designed to fit the calf shape of Japanese riders and provides a superior fit. The wider calf circumference accommodates riders who wear knee braces or have a larger build. The gaiter (opening) has been redesigned with a new, more stretchy material to prevent mud and sand from entering from the top. The new Gaerne G logo, original Japan graphics on the side of the boot, and new relief-design protection parts give the boots a more rugged look.
The simple design of the Cipher J is the lightest of all Gaerne motocross boots, putting less strain on the rider and preventing fatigue even after long periods of use.
Not only are our feet different from Westerners, but our calf lines are also different. This means that Western boots have a gap in the gaiter (the opening part of the boot) even though they are not large enough around the calf. Also, the boots are too high, reaching just below the knee and rubbing against the thighs when riding.
To solve these problems, the Cipher J boots are designed to be approximately 10mm lower in the front and 20mm lower in the back compared to Western models, ensuring shin protection while revising the calf line to significantly improve the fit. Furthermore, the calf extension (approximately 20mm around the gaiter) makes them suitable for knee braces, which are becoming more common in motocross, and for riders with thicker calves.
The genuine leather body is flexible and durable, allowing for excellent operability when pedaling and stepping. The plastic parts, which are essential for protecting your feet, have been optimized in thickness and layout to balance protection and weight, providing just the right amount of effectiveness.
The addition of shirring around the ankles improves pedal control and walking comfort, helping with precise braking and shifting. It also prevents the leather from tucking in.
The shin area is lined with quick-drying polyester mesh, keeping the inside of the boots comfortable even during intense riding. The area below the ankle is made of durable Conformart fabric, which conforms to the shape of your foot, giving you a comfortable, well-worn feel right from the start.
The same large aluminum buckle and strap as the premium model are used. It can be easily and securely fastened even while wearing gloves. By drilling screw holes in the two upper locations, the buckle mounting position can be moved approximately 20 mm forward, making it suitable for riders with knee braces or thick calves. Also, like other Gaerne models, the straps are micro-adjustable, allowing for precise adjustment to fit your foot size.
The inside of the shin area, which is prone to come into contact with the exhaust pipe and chamber, is equipped with a heat shield made of heat-resistant leather. By not using plastic parts here, it is easier to feel the machine's movements and creates a sense of unity between the rider and the machine. In addition, the lightweight construction makes it less tiring to wear for long periods of time, allowing you to concentrate on riding.
The sole is made with Gaerne's original flat sole, which boasts high durability. The vibrant Italian red midsole not only accents the design but also serves as a guide for when to replace the sole. However, if the midsole wears out, replacement becomes difficult. Please contact J-REPAIR as soon as possible before this happens.
