What truly distinguishes the Fastback is the "ankle frame" positioned around the ankle. So, what exactly does the ankle frame do? In short, it prevents "twisting." The ankle frame allows for vertical movement of the ankle while restricting horizontal movement. This means that normal pedal operation during riding and walking when dismounted are maintained, while protecting against sprains, fractures, and other injuries caused by "twisting" in accidents such as falls.
A pivot is an axis of rotation, and by placing this axis at the ankle part of the boot, the ankle can move. The metal screw at the ankle acts as this axis, and together with the attached plastic part, it is called the "pivot system." The greatest advantage of adopting a pivot system lies in controlling ankle movement. The degree of control varies depending on the design of the pivot system, which in turn changes the balance between protection and operability (higher protection means lower operability). Models that prioritize protection are Gaerne's top-of-the-line boots, the SG-12 and SG-22, while the Fastback is a model that prioritizes operability.
What Gaerne is particularly particular about in boot manufacturing is the method of sole construction. The sole construction not only significantly changes the comfort but also makes a dramatic difference in protection. Gaerne's competition boots employ the traditional Northern Italian manufacturing method, said to last "100 years," called the Norwegian welt construction, commonly known as "Norvegiese." The major advantage of the Norwegian welt construction is that the sole's rigidity is extremely high. This method has been a commitment of founder Mr. Gazzola since Gaerne's inception and can only be achieved with the skill of artisans. This is also why Gaerne boots are still made in Italy.

"色は少し淡いグリーン系のカモフラ柄で、トーンを落とした色味のウェアに合う感じ。 半日も履いていればペダルの操作に支障が無くなる程度の柔らかさ。 それでいて横に捻れる動きは無く、革を使ったクラシカルなブーツ(EDプロも含む)と比較すると、足首の安心感が桁違いに高い。 エンデューロソールも控えめなブロックで、押し歩きよりもライディングを優先している印象が好ましい。 サイズの調整幅も大きい。ベルトだけでなく、上の2つのバックル位置も調整できる。 私はふくらはぎが細めなので、履き口に隙間が空く事がありますが、ジャストに調整できました。 おそらく太い人でも大丈夫だと思います。 サイズ感は普通のやや幅広(2E程度？)の靴と同じ感じです。 総じて気に入りました。"

"初オフロードブーツです。サイズはGロームとGストーンは26. 0cmでちょうど良かったので同じサイズを注文しましたが、少し痛かっので、26. 5cmに交換してもらいました。 ちょっとつま先に余裕がありますが良い感じです。レーシングブーツに比べてかなり重くて硬く操作はまだ慣れていないので大変ですが守られてる感は凄いです。値段は少し高いですがカッコも良く満足してます。"

"長年愛用しているG-MIDLANDと、以前オフロードバイクを降りる際、知人に譲ってしまったCYPHER J。オフロードバイクへの情熱が再燃し、再びブーツを探し始めたとき、まず頭に浮かんだのは「今度はもう少し柔らかいブーツがいいかな」ということでした。当初はED-PRO ARTを検討しましたが、G-MIDLANDも手元にあることを考えると、役割が中途半端になるのではと思い直しました。 そこで、一段上の防御力を求めて選んだのが、このブーツです。結果として、この選択は大正解でした。渋いデザインが決め手となったことも、正直に言って大きいです。このデザインを見た瞬間、かつて愛用していたCYPHER Jの記憶はすっかり頭から消え去ってしまいました。デザインの魅力が、このブーツを選ぶ決定打だったと言えるでしょう。 実際に履いてみての感想 私の足のサイズは、スニーカーで26. 5cmの3Eです。今回も同じ26. 5cmを選びました。全長は完璧でしたが、横幅はわずかにタイトで、小指に少し当たる感覚がありました。ただ、今のところ痛みは全くなく、問題にはなっていません。 それよりも、私が特に気に入っているのが足首のホールド感です。このブーツは、足首をしっかりと固定してくれます。バイクに乗車していると、かかとがわずかに靴底から浮き上がるほどの強力なホールド感です。普通に立っているときは、体重がかかるためかかとがしっかりと底につきますが、足首には適度な圧迫感があります。 しかし、この圧迫感はネガティブなものではありません。むしろ、これこそがこのブーツがもたらしてくれる安心感の証だと感じています。この強力な固定感があるからこそ、不意な転倒や路面からの衝撃から足首を守ってくれるのだと確信しています。長時間履いていても痛みがなく、このホールド感こそが、このブーツの最大の魅力だと感じています。 新しい相棒と共に、これから始まるオフロードライフがますます楽しみです。"

"ちゃんとしたオフブーツは初めてです。 普段スニーカー26. 5でピッタリ目で履いておりますが26で足先上下は余裕があるくらいで大丈夫でした。 甲高で足首が太く、ふくらはぎは細めの足です。 最初左足くるぶしの上（樹脂プロテクター部）が痛くなる傾向が有りましたが、一晩幅のある型モノ（電動工具のバッテリー）を入れてバックルで固定し、幅を広げるように型付けして解決しました。 スニーカーの様！！とはなりませんがスキーブーツをイメージするようなプロテクションのイメージからすると前後方向の動きはスムーズで初めてのオフブーツでも然程慣れるのに時間はかからないかな！？ と思います。（足首だけでシフトチェンジは厳しいかも） 初ブーツなので他との比較は出来ませんが安心感もあり、心配したほど疲れたり動かし辛くも無く、良い買物だったと思います。"

"ショートブーツを履いていたけど足首を骨折してしまったので、これを買いました。頑丈の一言ですね。最初から買っておけば怪我もなかったのに悔やまれる。5万円を惜しんで1年間を棒に振ってしまった。もし怪我をしていなかったら、もう一つの柔らかいものを選択してたかも。現地で歩き回るのはキツいかも。サイズは日本人のスニーカーサイズ通りでした。半サイズ大きいの頼んだら、半サイズ大きかった。でも包み込みががっちりなので、どうせ少し厚手の靴下なのでこのままで履きます。"
