A highly maneuverable model developed for enduro and rally riders.
The most notable feature of the Fastback is the presence of the "ankle frame" located around the ankle.
The frames of Gaerne's top-of-the-line motocross boots, the SG-12 and SG-10, usually extend from the ankle of the boot to the upper calf. This significantly increases protection, but it comes with the disadvantage of making it difficult to move when getting off the bike. The Fastback's "ankle frame" is compactly designed, providing basic protection while also allowing for smooth movement when getting off the bike. This is an essential feature for enduro and rally competitions, which involve a lot of getting on and off the bike.

Ankle Frame
So, what exactly does an ankle frame do? In a word, it prevents twisting. The ankle frame allows vertical movement of the ankle while controlling lateral movement. This means you can pedal normally while riding and walk normally when you get off, and it protects you from injuries such as sprains and fractures caused by twisting in accidents such as falls.
Pivot System
A pivot is the axis of rotation, and placing this axis at the ankle of the boot allows the ankle to move. A metal screw at the ankle serves as this axis, and together with the plastic part attached to it, it is called the "pivot system." The greatest benefit of using a pivot system is the control of ankle movement. The degree of control varies depending on the design of the pivot system, which in turn changes the balance between protection and maneuverability (increased protection decreases maneuverability). The model that prioritizes protection is Gaerne's top-of-the-line boot, the SG-12, followed by the SG-10, and the model that prioritizes maneuverability is the Fastback.
Sole manufacturing method
When making boots, Gaerne pays particular attention to the sole manufacturing method. The sole manufacturing method not only greatly affects the comfort of the boots, but also makes a significant difference in the protection they provide. Gaerne's competition boots are made using the Norwegian method (commonly known as Norvegiese), a traditional Northern Italian manufacturing method that is said to last for 100 years. The major advantage of the Norwegian method is that the sole is extremely rigid. This manufacturing method has been a focus of Gaerne's founder, Mr. Gazzola, since the company's founding, and can only be made with the skills of a skilled artisan. This is one of the reasons why Gaerne boots are still made in Italian factories.
