With the FUGA, we aimed to strike a balance between creating the necessary environment for riding and enhancing the fundamental functions of a shoe.
To optimize the riding environment, the upper, which forms the instep of the boot, is crafted from a single piece of leather, and the opening has been offset. Forming from a single piece of leather requires a luxurious amount of material and creates significant waste, which is reflected in the cost. However, the seamless form is not only aesthetically beautiful, but its flexibility also provides a comfortable fit for the foot. Furthermore, the surface, which is relatively free of bumps and ridges, allows for smooth contact with the motorcycle.
The offset opening further realizes this concept in a concrete way. We shifted the position of the shoelaces—which can interfere with riding—to the outside, and adopted a snap-button method for securing the laces. This results in a clean, smart appearance that enhances the refined design.

The meaning of "Rough"

The "ROUGH" in Rough Brown refers to the word's meaning of ruggedness. These boots were created with the concept that it looks cool to wear them hard, develop scratches, and have uneven leather tones!
You will likely notice minor scratches or scuff marks right from the moment you receive them. When the product is dry, the leather color appears lighter, making the variations in tone more vivid. Applying a waterproof polish or similar product will darken the leather, making color changes caused by friction less noticeable. Repeating this process will bring out even more character over time.
We want you to enjoy your adventures to the fullest without worrying about scratches or dirt.

About the leather tag

These boots include a leather tag made from the same full-grain leather as the upper.
Because it is crafted with the same thickness and dyed in the same way as the boots, you can personally feel the quality and substantial texture of the material. Looking at the cross-section, you can see that thick leather was used generously.
The tag is embossed with the GAERNE logo and "MADE IN ITALY." It quietly tells the story of a reliable heritage and the dedication of the makers. This small tag serves as proof that you can see with your own eyes and feel with your own hands the quality of the leather used in your boots, and enjoy the way it changes over time.

The leather tag included with this product is a specification starting from December 2025. Models from before that time do not include one.

Please note that some units may feature a design where the tag is threaded directly through the laces, while others use a metal fastener. Thank you for your understanding.
Because it may come off during wear, we recommend removing and storing the tag when using the boots.

Because Gaerne products are designed for riding, the sizing differs from standard shoes. Furthermore, the lasts, sole shapes, and sole construction methods vary by model, leading to differences in how each one fits. We have prepared a size chart based on data for each model's sole and last; please use it to help you choose the right size.

This model features an authentic leather insole pre-installed, so it can be worn as-is without the included insole.

Upper Material

ANFIBIO leather is the highest-grade full-grain leather, permitted for use only in Gaerne’s high-end boot models. It is characterized by being exceptionally durable while becoming soft as it breaks in. Furthermore, it is resistant to dirt and possesses a degree of natural water resistance (though it is not completely waterproof). Dyed ANFIBIO leather takes on color unevenly, creating a unique texture. The way the color shifts over time is also a major characteristic of this leather.

Sole Construction

What characterizes this boot is the Norwegian construction, also known as "Norvegiese." This method offers various advantages by stitching the boot’s upper, midsole, and outsole together with a unique lock stitch. Examples include a thick sole that resists losing its shape, extremely high rigidity, a sturdy finish that lasts a long time, and the ability to replace the sole. As a staple in high-end men’s dress shoes, it has been considered the optimal method for making shoes sturdy and beautiful since ancient times. However, the downside is that it is costly due to the complex process involved. For this reason, many shoes that look like Norwegian or Goodyear welted items are not truly constructed that way. These shoes were crafted disregarding such costs, out of a desire to deliver the real thing. Gaerne refers to shoes like the No.145 and FUGA as "Integral Shoes"—meaning shoes that "completely wrap the foot."

This is a handmade product manufactured one by one by craftsmen at the Gaerne factory in the Veneto region of Italy. From the FUGA, you should be able to feel the history and culture of Italian craftsmanship, as well as the passionate pride and sensitivity of Gaerne’s skilled artisans. You can also sense their obsession with and love for these shoes in the stitches, each one sewn securely and with great care.
