No.145 is a long-selling boot born from the collaboration between Gaerne and Japex, worn by enthusiasts for over 30 years.

Its prototype is a work boot from the time of Gaerne’s founding. Keeping its perfected form almost entirely intact, it was reborn as a motorcycle boot with the addition of a shift guard on the left foot. The name "145" was inherited directly from the project number of that original boot.

The upper is made of approximately 3mm-thick full-grain leather, with leather also used for the lining. It is crafted using Gaerne’s signature Norwegian welt construction. The manufacturing method, the leather, and the philosophy behind its creation remain true to their origins. Owning a pair of No.145s means owning the technology and history that Gaerne has cultivated since its days of making mountaineering boots.

And the true charm of the No.145 only begins to reveal itself once you start wearing them.

The leather conforms to your feet, wrinkles and scratches appear, and the color and luster deepen. A boot made with a standardized look gradually transforms into a unique, one-of-a-kind pair, accumulating the roads you have traveled and the time you have spent. Seeing that change makes you want to wear them more—and ride your bike more.

Of course, they aren’t "easy" boots.

The thick leather requires maintenance, the lace-up structure takes time to put on and take off, and they have a substantial weight. But it is precisely because you polish them, lace them up, and cover distance in them time and again that even their stubbornness becomes endearing.

No.145 is not a boot that is "complete" the day you buy it.

They become *your* boots as much as you travel in them.

The Meaning of "Rough"

The "ROUGH" in Rough Brown refers to a rugged quality. These boots were created with the concept that it looks cool to wear them hard, let them get scratched, and embrace the natural color variations in the leather.
You may notice minute scratches or scuff marks right out of the box. When the leather is dry, its color appears lighter, making the shading and nuances more distinct. Applying products like a waterproof polish will darken the leather and make the color changes caused by friction less noticeable. Repeating this process over time will bring out even more character.
We want you to enjoy your adventures to the fullest without worrying about scratches or dirt.

About the Leather Tag

These boots include a leather tag made from the same full-grain leather as the upper.
Because it is crafted with the same thickness and dyeing process as the boots themselves, you can feel the quality and substance of the material for yourself. From the cross-section, you can see that we have not skimped on using thick, high-quality leather.
The tag is embossed with the GAERNE logo and "MADE IN ITALY." It quietly tells the story of the brand's solid background and the maker's commitment. It is a small piece of evidence that lets you verify with your own eyes and hands just how high-quality the leather used in your boots is, and allows you to enjoy the changes that come with age.

The leather tag included with this product applies to specifications from December 2025 onwards. Models prior to this date do not include one.

Please note that there is a mix of specifications: some tags are threaded directly onto the shoelaces, while others are fixed with hardware.
As the tag may come off during wear, we recommend removing it for safekeeping while using the boots.

Additionally, since the last, sole shape, and sole construction vary by model, the fit will differ for each. We have provided a size chart based on the data for the sole and last of each model to help you choose the right size.

This model features a pre-attached genuine leather insole, so you can use them as-is without the included insertable insole.
Please use the included insole for minor size adjustments once the boot leather has broken in.

Upper Material

ANFIBIO leather is the highest-grade full-grain leather allowed only for Gaerne’s high-end models; it is remarkably durable yet soft once broken in. It is also resistant to dirt, and the material itself possesses a degree of water repellency (though it is not fully waterproof). Dyed ANFIBIO leather takes color unevenly, creating a unique texture. The fact that the color changes over time is a major characteristic of this leather.

Sole Construction

What characterizes this shoe is the Norwegian welt construction, known as "Norvegese." This method involves stitching the upper, the midsole, and the outsole together with a unique lock stitch, which offers many advantages. These include a thick sole that is resistant to losing its shape, extremely high rigidity, a sturdy finish for long-lasting use, and the ability to have the sole replaced. As is standard in high-end men's dress shoes, this has been the optimal method for creating sturdy and beautiful footwear since ancient times.
However, because it involves complex steps, it is costly to produce. Consequently, many shoes that look like Norwegian or Goodyear welted footwear are not actually built that way. This shoe was produced with the desire to ignore such costs and deliver the real thing. Gaerne refers to shoes like the No.145 and FUGA as "integral shoes"—meaning shoes that "completely wrap the foot."

These are handmade products, each manufactured by craftsmen one by one at the Gaerne factory in the Veneto region of Italy.
From the No.145, you should be able to feel the burning pride and sensibility of the skilled Gaerne craftsmen, cultivated by the history and culture of Italian manufacturing. Furthermore, you will be able to perceive their obsession and affection for these shoes in the stitches they have carefully and surely sewn, one by one.
